With an extensive game collection at our institution we have struggled with ways to make it discoverable to our users. Materials without ISBNs do not consistently pull in thumbnail images, there are no item designations for games, MARC records for games do not adequately describe this format type, and the items get lost in the catalogue even with a known title search. To combat this, we explored using the Collection Discovery feature to highlight our gaming collections, but the issues remained with the addition of having to direct users to navigate away from the catalogue search to find these curated collections. This talk will articulate and contextualize the issues, look at some workarounds or solutions we have tried to implement and open the general discussion around discoverability of non-traditional materials.
