Setting Up Local Holdings Records (LHR) Data Sync With OCLC: Not Just for Serials
The Georgia Tech Library has a complex Alma setup and set of policies for interlibrary loan lending. When I arrived in the fall of 2022, holdings were out of date and did not accurately reflect the actual lending policies. This forced our ILL staff into extra work since we received requests for material we no longer owned, material we wouldn't lend, and conversely, internal users searching OCLC products requesting material via ILL that we did actually own. In order to reduce this extra work, I set out to sync all of our holdings as Local Holdings Records through OCLC Data Sync. In this presentation I'll cover the unique challenges from our environment, why I chose LHRs over bib data, and the Alma-based ways I (mostly) solved them. By trying to solve as much as possible within Alma, I believe the knowledge and workflow is more stable and sustainable.
