myLibrary: Connecting Students to Library Resources Related to Their Courses

Session Information

The Bridge Consortium of Carleton College and St. Olaf College, with funding from the Mellon Foundation, developed and launched myLibrary, an open source online platform that connects students to the librarians, LibGuides, and reserves materials related to their course enrollments. Under the hood, myLibrary uses Alma as a data hub and pulls in additional data from Primo and LibGuides. After conducting student focus groups on myLibrary the Bridge Consortium decided to pivot from its myLibrary platform to Leganto and other services that can be integrated into Moodle. In this presentation, we will demonstrate myLibrary, discuss what we learned from the student focus groups, explain our decision to pivot to Leganto, and share our plans for managing the transition. We'll leave time for group discussion on the broader question of how to help our patrons discover the library resources and information most relevant to their needs.
Primo
Learn novel ways to use Alma and APIs to aggregate data from various sources into one place
Discover ways to incorporate user testing into platform development projects
Refining the purposes of platforms and the user needs they address.
